4 Ways the Bible Can Fix Your Marriage

Published by on March 28th, 2020.

Here are four simple ways you can fix your marriage with God’s help.

Praying Together

The old saying “The family that prays together, stays together” is true because when there is an intimate relationship between the spouse and God, the spouse is the winner. A family can move forward in life but only on their knees. The family that prays together is submitting to God together, and God will bless a marriage that is devoted to prayer.

Loving Like Christ

We are supposed to “be imitators of God” (Ephesians 5:1) and “walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God” (Ephesians 5:2), which means as Christ submitted to the Father, “wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord” (Ephesians 5:22). But the Apostle Paul says, “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her” (Ephesians 5:25). I can’t think of a Christian woman whose husband loved her like Christ loved the church who didn’t want to submit to such a man. Jesus was co-equal to the power and glory of the Father yet willingly submitted to the Father, and that is part of their close relationship with one another.

Being Thankful

The Bible commands us to be “giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:20), so we must not only be praying for our spouse but be grateful for all they do. When we personally thank our spouse and are thankful for them before God, we are not taking them for granted and show God that we are content in life with where we are and to whom we’re married. Being thankful to your spouse may mean sending flowers or a card, leaving thank you notes or love notes, and telling them you are thankful to God for them being in your life. That will help strengthen any relationship and certainly marriage.

Studying the Word

Getting into the Word together acts like glue that keeps a marriage together. Solomon wrote, “Though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken” (Ecclesiastes 4:12). With two we can better stand in the storms of life; but when God’s that third cord, it’s not easily broken. Take in the Word of God together, and together couples will be stronger with the threefold cord of God’s Spirit.

Conclusion

We all need help in our marriages since no marriage is perfect. So love your spouse, pray for your spouse, study the Word with your spouse, and be thankful for your spouse, both to God and them. Let them know what they mean to you. Even if you know they know it, tell them–they deserve to hear it.
